  • 1 Skillet or frying pan For cooking the beef filling

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb Ground beef Lean preferred
  • 1 cup Thai basil leaves Fresh,whole or chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 1 small Shallot Finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp Brown sugar
  • ½ tsp Chili flakes or 1 Thai chili Optional,adjust heat
  • 8-10 sheets Rice paper wrappers Use for rolling
  • Vegetable oil For cooking
  • Lime juice Fresh,for finishing or serving
  • ½ cup Fresh mint leaves Optional
  • ½ cup Cilantro leaves Optional
  • ¼ cup Sliced green onion Optional
  • ¼ cup Julienned carrots or cucumbers Optional crunch element

Instructions
 

  • Phase 1 / Step 1: Heat a tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat and add minced garlic and finely chopped shallot, sauté until fragrant about one minute
  • Phase 1 / Step 2: Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking apart, until no pink remains

  • Phase 1 / Step 3: Stir in soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, and chili flakes, simmer for 2‑3 minutes until slightly thick and glossy

  • Phase 1 / Step 4: Remove skillet from heat, stir in lime juice and chopped basil leaves, allow filling to cool slightly
  • Phase 2 / Step 1: Fill a large shallow dish with warm water, dip one rice-paper wrapper for 5–10 seconds until softened but still holds shape, lay flat on a clean surface

  • Phase 2 / Step 2: Spoon beef mixture (and optional herbs/veggies) onto the lower third of wrapper, fold bottom over filling, tuck sides, roll tightly to form neat roll

  • Phase 2 / Step 3: Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling, slice rolls in half if desired, arrange on platter seam‑side down, garnish with extra herbs, serve immediately with dipping sauce

Notes

  • Use thin Vietnamese-style rice paper wrappers for best texture
  • Do not over-soak wrappers; 5–10 seconds is enough
  • Let beef filling cool slightly before rolling
  • Work quickly once wrapper is softened
  • Best enjoyed fresh; store filling separately if preparing ahead
  • Gluten-free option: use gluten-free sauces and wraps
  • Variations: substitute beef with chicken, turkey, mushrooms, or tofu; for low-carb, use large lettuce leaves
